Masterclasses at Denver Public Schools Solo Ensemble Workshop

Every spring, Music at MSU Denver hosts a solo and ensemble festival for strings, percussion and wind soloists and groups from Denver Public Schools. MSU Denver faculty coach and clinic approximately 80 students from a number of Denver schools, and present masterclasses for them. This workshop also features the Rumpus Room- a room (co-sponsored by Creative Music Works) where attendees can create and improvise in a range of ways. Lunch is provided for all participants.

Immediate Music Festival – Sone

The Immediate Music Festival is celebration of collaborative improvisation. Students and the community are invited to attend workshops and demonstrations of Soundpainting, Pauline Oliveros’ Deep Listening, Group Improvising, and to enjoy wonderful improvisatory performances and interactive presentations. All presentations and workshops will be made by extremely experienced, thoughtful, and gentle artist/clinicians including Jane Rigler and Janet Feder from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Master Improviser and Soundpainting expert Evan Mazunik, Soundpainter and cellist Gil Selinger, and special guest, renowned drummer and educator Matt Wilson. The days events will be followed by an evening concert featuring the group Sone (Jane Rigler, Janet Feder, Evan Mazunik, Gil Selinger, Mark Harris) and Matt Wilson. All workshops and presentations during the day are free and open to the public. Registration is highly encouraged (see below) as lunch will be provided and the evening concert is free to registered participants.
